Meet the Founders
The Together We Stand Foundation was established in 2022 by Birungi Clare and Tom Conway. Clare serves as the President of the Foundation and continues to provide services in Uganda. Clare and Tom met online in 2014 and quickly developed an amazing relationship. With Tom being from the US and Clare being from Uganda, they realized that life was very different in Uganda, especially for women and children. The lack of educational and medical opportunities meant women and children continually struggle.
As a nurse, Clare has an intense passion for helping people. It is one of the traits most admired by Tom. Clare worked in a clinic and saw many women and children who could not afford the proper treatment, vaccinations, and medications. Being in this position many times herself, being a single mother of a wonderful little boy, she wanted to help as many people as possible. It took about 6 years of planning and development of this idea to start a foundation to carry out their vision.
Tom has always been focused on the community through service organizations. His drive to help people matched that of Clare and they talked about how to help those in Uganda live better lives. Together, they decided that a Foundation would be a great way to raise the funds needed to carry out their vision. Tom always says, "The world can be a better place when we all help each other."
